Combine the world-famous Kruger National Park with the awesome Blyde River Canyon, for a fantastic short break - with Nelspruit as your base.
-
Start your break with an amble into the Kruger National Park where wild animals, friendly camps and excellent roads attract some 3 million visitors a year.
-
Return via the Blyde River Canyon with its spectacular scenery, ranging from deep canyons and thick mist-belt forests, to rolling bushveld and mountain grasslands. This route is part of the Panorama Route, which includes legendary scenic spots like God’s Window and the Bourke’s Luck Potholes. Whether you’re into river rafting, hot air ballooning, hiking or gorge-swinging, serious adventures await!
-
Alternatively, from the Kruger National Park you can also drive directly into Mozambique’s Limpopo National Park, via Massingir Dam. These two parks are being amalgamated into a vast wildlife sanctuary known as the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. The combined park will eventually measure a staggering 100,000 km² and is being developed for birding, lake cruises, tiger-fishing, and rugged 4 x 4 adventure drives.
-
Also, after a visit to the historic mining town of Barberton, you can take the wild road towards Swaziland, via the famous Saddleback Pass - set amongst the oldest mountains in the world. The Mkonjwa Mountains date back more than three billion years. This region is known as the Wild Frontier and borders Mozambique, Swaziland and the southern tip of the Kruger National Park. Visit gold mines, see the Lost City of Eureka, hike in the ancient hills or visit an awesome labyrinth – it’s all part of the adventure here.
The awesome Limpopo province, with capital Polokwane, is right next door – be sure to spend a few days before making your way back.
