Head east to the mountains and forests of nearby Magoebaskloof, known for its indigenous forests, waterfalls and rivers. At the centre is the village of Haenertsburg. Lapalala Wilderness has been a balm for wearied city souls for years. Stay in rustic riverside bush camps, tented camps or a catered lodge. There’s a fascinating rhino museum, dedicated to the creatures reintroduced into this area after an absence of a hundred years.
