Sun City, the premier entertainment resort of southern Africa, lies in the bowl of an extinct volcano in the Bushveld of South Africa’s North West Province. While it offers many attractions, it is renowned for hosting the annual Nedbank Golf Challenge.

Sun City has 4 hotels with distinct features, ensuring no one is left out in the cold. These range from the family friendly 3-star Cabanas to the luxurious 5-star plus Palace of the Lost City, which is listed as a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.
There are fine restaurants and dining areas at all these facilities, and across the complex. The resort also houses some of the best conference and exhibition facilities in the Southern Hemisphere. These cater for anything from 20 to 6 000 delegates.
Entertainment for the Entire Family
With two casinos and a bingo lounge, Sun City is the place for gamers. And the Superbowl is famous for hosting celebrity performances, sporting events and pageants. There are also a movie zone, nightclub and theatre.
Children and teens are also well catered for. There is treasure at the Finder’s Keepers scratch patch, a children’s games arcade, bumper cars, mini golf and a steam train.
Crocodiles and Culture
There are a number of walking trails through the botanical gardens; a sanctuary for many rare bird and plant species. If the African bush and the Big 5 are your thing, then visit the Pilanesberg National Park.
Close to the entrance to Sun City is Kwena Gardens, home to over 8 000 Nile crocodiles. Nearby is the Motseng Cultural Village, which showcases South African life through song, dance and food.
Wonder Waves
Umbrellas, sand and towels give a distinct beach feel to Sun City’s Valley of the Waves. Incorporated into this area are five exhilarating waterfall rides. Here, adrenaline junkies head for the Temple of Courage with its 233 foot drop.
If that is not enough, then there is the world’s longest, highest foefie (zip) slide.

There are a wide variety of activities for the sports enthusiast, including tennis, squash, jogging trails, gym, parasailing, water-skiing and jet skiing. And there are two tough championship golf courses.
The golf car only Lost City layout features the par-3 13 th green, which is surrounded by a pit of crocodiles. But, for most, the real thrill is the Gary Player Golf Course, which hosts the annual Nedbank Golf Challenge.
A Million Dollar Challenge
Sun City has hosted the Nedbank Golf Challenge since 1981, when it was known as the Million Dollar Challenge. It has such pulling power that over the years it has attracted the stars of the game, including Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Gary Player .
This year’s showpiece takes place from 29 November to 2 December.
