SA Leads at World Travel Awards 2006

   
Leading Hotel winner – Mount Nelson Hotel
   
South Africa dominated the Africa segment and also won some of the major World titles at the World Travel Awards held in London recently.
The country’s Shamwari Game Reserve was voted the World’s Leading Conservation Company as well as the World’s best Safari and Game Reserve.
The Saxon (South Africa) was also voted the World’s Leading Boutique Hotel.

Travel agencies in over 200 countries worldwide were asked to vote for their leading travel destinations, airlines, hotels, personalities and companies around the world. Hundreds and thousands of votes each year are registered online on the official World Travel Awards website.

South Africa was awarded the following for 2006:

  • Leading airline: South African Airways
  • Leading first class airline: South African Airways
  • Leading business class airline: South African Airways
  • Leading airport: Cape Town international Airport
  • Leading car hire: Europcar
  • Leading casino resort: D’oreale Grande at Emperors Palace
  • Leading conference centre: ICC, Durban
  • Leading conference hotel: Sun City Resort
  • Leading destination: Cape Town
  • Leading hotel: Mount Nelson Hotel
  • Leading hotel brand: Protea Hotels
  • Leading resort: Sun City
  • Leading safari: Shamwari Game Reserve
  • Leading safari train: Rovos Rail - The Pride of Africa
  • Leading spa resort: Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa
  • Leading boutique hotel: The Saxon
