The SA Gourmet Festival

Don’t miss the food, wine and gourmet event of the year.  When local food personality Christine Cashmore started her 1-week Good Food & Wine show in Cape Town 1

2 years ago, she had no idea it would become the international show it is today, with 45 000 visitors coming from all over the world.

Originally, the show brought international chefs to top hotels in Cape Town with the idea of training and improving food standards. Now the show takes place in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, and includes various interactive events for visitors to discover and enjoy food.

Food, Glorious Food Highlights

The signature Chefs in Action sees BBC Food channel celebrity chefs cook their signature dishes and share tips with visitors who get up close and personal in this 250-seater theatre-style kitchen.

There is also an opportunity to get your hands dirty and cook with top chefs, and at the best South African Restaurant Chefs Theatre you are invited to watch award-winning local restaurant chefs whip up their signature dishes.

New to the show in 2008 are Barista courses offered by the Speciality Coffee Association of Southern Africa, where you can learn how to prepare the best coffee on some of the best equipment.

Wine & Cocktails on the Side

An integral part of the show is an exclusive wine competition that is held earlier on in the year and Good Food & Wine visitors are invited to taste more than 200 of these winning wines at the Great Wine Sale event, where you can pick up premium wines at bargain prices. The competition is led by founder of the London International Wine Challenge, Robert Joseph.

You can also watch some of the country’s top bartenders shake their stuff in front of international judges at the National Classic Cocktail Competition.

Restaurant Week & the Coffee Route

A very popular side event of the Good Food & Wine show is top restaurants and coffee shops collaborating with the organisers to offer visitors special gourmet menus and speciality coffee and food combinations. The public is invited to vote for its favourite outlet.

Dining at the Table of Unity

Gourmet Festival organisers started the Table of Unity aimed at bringing top political leaders together for a meal on Table Mountain. The event was such a success that it now takes place simultaneously in major cities annually as a fundraiser and anyone

can book a place at the table for a 3-course menu.

The event has a theme of peace and unity, and includes wine and entertainment. All money raised goes to children’s charities.

With strong ties to gourmet festivals around the world, the Good Food & Wine shows draw international attention and each year the shows seem to grow even bigger and better.
