Where To Eat

South Africa is renowned for some of the best cuisines in the world. You can get almost any kind of food and the quality is sure to be the best you ever had.

Because South Africa is a culturally diverse society there is a restaurant for almost everyone. The South African delis are influenced by cultures from across the globe. There are Chinese, Indian, Thai, Mediterranean, European, American, African and other restaurants splashed all over the country.

This section of the site gives you the lowdown of all kinds of the top restaurants in South Africa.

Food Guide for an Indian Traveller
My idea of a good Indian meal is an expansive table set out in the shade of mango trees, in the lush gardens of a Rajasthani palace; countless full-blown chapatti’s with melting ghee; mild and hot dishes that defy description and transport you over long moments on sensations of taste; charpoy’s to collapse in and lots of time for rolling over in a daze of satisfaction, to watch squirrels and parrots.

African Affair
In days of old, African food was cooked over an open fire or in a three-legged pot, so today, meat tends to arrive in either stewed or grilled form.

Cape Malay Cuisine
Cape Malay cuisine seduces diners with its aromatic Oriental flavours. Cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, turmeric and aniseed turn ordinary dishes into a discovery of palm-fronted islands where the smell of spices travel on the evening breeze. This fragrant style of cooking is unique to South Africa and dates back to the arrival of Europeans in the Cape of Good Hope.

French
South Africa ’s dedicated French restaurants tend to be in the upper price bracket, but are excellent in every way.

Gourmet
South Africa’s reputation as a gourmet destination has increased by leaps and bounds in the past decade.

Seafood
South Africa has large Greek and Portuguese communities whose love of seafood is legendary and whose restaurant menus stand testimony to this passion.

Tours to Taste
How best to discover the heart and soul of another country? Through its food, of course. Eating your way around South Africa, with its wealth of culinary riches, has never been easier or more fun with tourists able to choose from a host of speciality food-related tours.

World’s Best Small Restaurant and Chef
One of South Africa’s most luxurious country inns, Le Quartier Français, has recently added another accolade to their long list of prestigious chef, accommodation, restaurant, shop, and wine list awards.
South African Steakhouses
South Africans love meat, particularly beef. South African beef is disease-free and rates among the best in the world. Steak appears on the menu at just about every restaurant, but there are several dedicated to the preparation and consumption of meat.
Mexican Restaurants
Mexican restaurants in South Africa place more emphasis on festive atmosphere than haute cuisine. However, the food is hearty, well prepared and while not always authentically Mexican, at least conveys a sense of being in a hacienda.
